Ingredients

  • 4 sheets lightly salted matzo or unsalted if you prefer more control over salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or any chopped nuts optional
  • Sea salt flakes or kosher salt to finish

Instructions

Prep Your Baking Sheet:

  • Line A Rimmed Baking Sheet With Parchment Paper Or Foil. Lay The Matzo Sheets In A Single Layer, Breaking Them To Fit Edge-To-Edge.

Make The Toffee Layer:

  • In A Saucepan Over Medium Heat, Melt The Butter And Brown Sugar, Stirring Until It Starts Bubbling. Let It Boil Gently For 3 Minutes Without Stirring Too Much. You Want A Thick, Smooth Toffee Mixture.

Pour The Toffee Over Matzo:

  • Quickly Pour The Hot Toffee Over The Matzo Layer And Spread It Out Evenly With A Spatula. Work Fast—It Starts Setting Quickly!

Bake It:

  • Pop The Baking Sheet Into A Preheated Oven At 350°f (175°c) For About 10-12 Minutes. The Toffee Will Bubble All Over. That’s When It’s Ready.

Add The Chocolate:

  • Remove From Oven, Then Sprinkle Chocolate Chips Over The Hot Toffee. Wait 2-3 Minutes For Them To Soften, Then Spread Evenly To Form The Chocolate Toffee Topping.

Top It Off:

  • Sprinkle With Sea Salt Flakes And Chopped Nuts (If Using). Press Them Down Gently So They Stick To The Warm Chocolate.

Cool And Cut:

  • Let It Cool Completely—First At Room Temp, Then Chill In The Fridge For About 30 Minutes Until Firm. Break Or Cut Into Squares Or Bars On A Cutting Board. Done!
