Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice about 4–6 lemons
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water for syrup
  • 5 cups cold water for dilution
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Lemon slices optional, for garnish

Instructions
 

Make the sugar syrup

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water.
  • Heat on medium until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it cool.

Juice the lemons

  • Roll each lemon on the counter to loosen the juice before cutting.
  • Squeeze until you have 1 cup fresh lemon juice. Strain out seeds and extra pulp for a clean lemonade.

Mix the base

  • In a large pitcher, combine the cooled sugar syrup with the lemon juice.

Add water

  • Stir in 5 cups cold water. Taste and adjust—if you like it sweeter, add more syrup; if you like it tart, add more lemon juice.

Chill and serve

  • Add plenty of ice and serve in tall glasses. Garnish with lemon slices for extra lemon flavor.
