Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cacao powder high-flavanol type if possible
  • 1 tablespoon grated dark chocolate 70–90% cacao
  • 1 cup milk of your choice dairy or plant milk
  • 1 –2 teaspoons honey coconut sugar, or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream optional topping

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Warm The Milk
  • Pour the milk into a small pot and warm it on low heat. Don’t boil it. Warm milk lets the cacao dissolve smoothly, giving you that smoothness every good cup needs.
  • Step 2: Add The Cacao Powder
  • Sift the cacao powder into the warm milk to avoid lumps. Use a whisk to mix it gently until it looks smooth and rich.
  • Step 3: Melt In The Dark Chocolate
  • Add your grated dark chocolate and whisk again. As it melts, the drink takes on a deeper flavor and a richness you can’t get from powders alone.
  • Step 4: Add Sweetness And Spices
  • Stir in the honey, coconut sugar, or maple syrup. Add cinnamon, vanilla, and a tiny pinch of salt. The salt brings out the chocolate flavor in a way that makes the cup taste balanced.
  • Step 5: Let It Heat Slowly
  • Keep whisking on low heat. The hot chocolate should thicken slightly and turn glossy.
  • Step 6: Serve
  • Pour into your favorite cup. Add whipped cream if you like. I usually leave the top plain because I love the smell of pure dark chocolate and cacao.
