Step 1: Warm The Milk
Pour the milk into a small pot and warm it on low heat. Don’t boil it. Warm milk lets the cacao dissolve smoothly, giving you that smoothness every good cup needs.
Step 2: Add The Cacao Powder
Sift the cacao powder into the warm milk to avoid lumps. Use a whisk to mix it gently until it looks smooth and rich.
Step 3: Melt In The Dark Chocolate
Add your grated dark chocolate and whisk again. As it melts, the drink takes on a deeper flavor and a richness you can’t get from powders alone.
Step 4: Add Sweetness And Spices
Stir in the honey, coconut sugar, or maple syrup. Add cinnamon, vanilla, and a tiny pinch of salt. The salt brings out the chocolate flavor in a way that makes the cup taste balanced.
Step 5: Let It Heat Slowly
Keep whisking on low heat. The hot chocolate should thicken slightly and turn glossy.
Step 6: Serve
Pour into your favorite cup. Add whipped cream if you like. I usually leave the top plain because I love the smell of pure dark chocolate and cacao.
